The Smashing Pumpkins brought Olivia Rodrigo, Yungblud, and former touring bassist Melissa Auf der Maur onstage during their Lollapalooza 2026 headline set Friday night at Chicago’s Grant Park.
NME reported the Chicago band topped the Bud Light Stage on July 31, their first Lollapalooza appearance since headlining the festival’s travelling 1994 edition. Consequence and Rolling Stone said Yungblud joined for “Luna” from 1993’s Siamese Dream, Rodrigo sang “Thirty-Three” from 1995’s Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, and Auf der Maur closed the 17-song set on “The Everlasting Gaze.”

Festival weekend
Official festival materials list Lollapalooza 2026 in Grant Park from July 30 through August 2, with more than 170 performances across multiple stages and select sets livestreamed on Disney+ and Hulu. The City of Chicago’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications said the four-day event runs 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily and is expected to draw hundreds of thousands to the lakefront.
The Chicago Tribune reported a sold-out Thursday opening with a capacity crowd of about 115,000, Lorde and hometown DJ John Summit as night-one headliners, and National Weather Service forecasts calling for showers from late Friday through the weekend. Friday’s Pumpkins set arrived in that mid-festival window, with Saturday and Sunday still ahead on the official calendar.
Why the guests landed
NME noted Yungblud had already performed his own festival set earlier Friday and had collaborated with the Pumpkins earlier in 2026. Rodrigo headlined Lollapalooza in Chicago in 2025. The Chicago Sun-Times described the guest stretch as spanning Gen X and Gen Z, with the hometown band holding a Friday crowd against competing headliners elsewhere in the park.
