T-Mobile said it fully restored service for all customers late Monday after a multi-hour U.S. network outage that left many phones stuck without cellular signal, often showing SOS mode.
Downdetector showed user reports climbing around 4 p.m. ET on July 27, with peak counts reported in the tens of thousands. Reuters, via Channel News Asia, put the peak above 62,000 incidents and noted that Downdetector totals can differ from the number of people actually affected. Tom’s Guide’s live updates tracked complaints across major cities from coast to coast as customers reported dead signal.
Search interest for tmobile outage sat at rank 2 on the 28 Jul 2026 Google Trends pull, hours after T-Mobile said Monday night that service was fully restored.
What T-Mobile said
In statements to outlets including PCMag and WAVE3, T-Mobile first said teams were “actively working the reports of technical challenges impacting some customers.” After reports eased, the company said, “We have fully restored service for all customers and sincerely apologize for the difficulties.” WFMJ reported a restoration update around 10:30 p.m. ET; PCMag logged a similar confirmation near 11:45 p.m. ET. T-Mobile has not publicly named a cause.
Reach and limits
Digital Trends reported that MVNOs riding T-Mobile’s network, including Mint Mobile and Boost Mobile, also saw impact, and that Downdetector’s map concentrated complaints in cities such as New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis, and Los Angeles. PCMag staff with T-Mobile phones in Southern California, the Bay Area, and Philadelphia said they were not seeing trouble during the early hours of the incident, even as Reddit users in those markets and elsewhere reported outages. Verizon said its own network was operating normally and that trouble reaching contacts could stem from T-Mobile’s disruption.
